The Final Episode of PWN - PWN #43 is the forty-third and final episode of the PWN show, uploaded to PaulWesNick on September 20, 2019. It features Ari Froehlich, Wesley Davies, and Nick Geoghegan in a discussion of the history of the channel, as well as numerous guest appearances in the "Farewell" segment of the video. It is the longest episode of PWN, the only to surpass forty minutes, and was the third longest video on the channel at the time of upload. The finale was uploaded just under five years after the very first episode of the series, Interstellar: PWN #1. Like the episode directly prior, this video covers little on the topic of movies, and instead focuses on the channel's timely end as college approaches for its main participants.

Farewell[edit | edit source]

Paul's video as it appears in the Farewell segment of PWN #43.

The "Farewell" segment of the video begins at timestamp 33:55, after Nick introduces it as a collection of videos submitted by members of the channel. In total, six videos are featured:

  • The first video featured is from Paul Gaurano, who helped start the channel and the PWN series in 2014. This is his first appearance in any PWN video since 2014, with the exception of videos recorded prior to his departure from the channel (such as Our Fandoms: PWN #4 or footage from The Sequence). His video is cut into parts and dispersed throughout the farewells. He enters from frame right and sits in a swivel chair, then turns to face the camera and introduces himself as Paul. He steps on a paper that he refers to as "shit", then reveals that it says "Non Suscriber".
  • The first full video featured is from Lucan Alto Stargiotti, who delivers an improvised speech while naked in front of the main title screen for Super Mario World. At one point, the camera tilts down to reveal that his nipples have been censored out. He makes reference to Don of the Damned and other videos which he was featured in.
  • Paul reappears to say that anybody who has not subscribed is shit. He crumples the page up and slams it into a bin behind him, saying "that guy's dead".
  • After Paul's second interlude, the segment glitches out to reveal Evan Ramirez, who's video is heavily distorted both in visuals and in audio. All of his lines are subtitled. He makes reference to the Pepsi video, saying it is the first PWN video that he saw. He then promotes his own channel as the video gets more distorted and an alarm goes off. The video feed glitches, cuts out, and a large letter "H" appears (in the typeface Comic Sans). The video transitions to...
  • ...a message submitted by Joey Cianfrani. His video begins with him singing along to the song "Night Moves" by Bob Seger, before he notices that the camera is on. He introduces himself and his place in PWN history, talking about his early involvement with The Sequence and with Our Fandoms: PWN #4. He then goes on to talk about both A Hot Lead and Don of the Damned, as well as the movie Dazed and Confused. As he wraps up his speech, "Night Moves" comes back on.
  • Lastly, Ford Fairon appears. This is his first appearance on PWN since 2015, and his fourth unique appearance on the channel. He served on the PWN show during Paul's absence but before Ari's appearance. He thanks Wes and Nick specifically for his involvement in PWN and for his inclusion in the final episode. He closes with "I guess this is farewell".
  • Paul reappears one last time to say "stay alive, stay woke", before putting on sunglasses, sitting back down, and turning away from the camera. The screen fades, and text reading "And now, a video by Stephen Weinstock..." appears.
  • Stephen's submission is the only submission not to feature the submitter personally. He edited together clips from throughout PWN's history into a farewell montage. As the images play, audio of Michael Caine's recitation of "Do not go gentle into that good night" overlays the footage. Videos included in the montage are episodes of PWN, Don of the Damned, both presentations of the PWNER Awards, Nick and Lucan, Just an Average Tuesday, Four Years of PWN, with Lucan Alto Stargiotti, Star Wars Abridged, Chess to the Death, VShower, A Hot Lead, An Egg-Celent Cake!, Pepsi, The Game, and The Handshake. As the music reaches its climax, footage from Episode #1 of the trio introducing themselves is shown. As Nick says "welcome to the first episode of PWN", he is cut off by footage saying "welcome to the last episode of PWN". Suddenly, the theme from "Curb Your Enthusiasm" plays. Text appears– "Stay Tuned for PWN II: Electric Boogaloo". The video fades back to the episode proper.

Wesley Reviews Interstellar[edit | edit source]

"Wesley, look it's up to you, but I thought that a good way to end this series would be, can you please finally tell us what was your opinion of Interstellar?" - Nick Geoghegan

After the farewell segment, the video turns nostalgic, and Nick asks Wesley to give a formal review of Interstellar, which had never been properly given on PWN despite being the subject of the very first episode of the series. Wes's general dislike of the film had been referenced and joked about elsewhere on the channel, but no genuine review had been given. The only such explanation he had given was in the unreleased Best of 2014: PWN #4. The song "S.T.A.Y." by Hans Zimmer, from the Interstellar Original Soundtrack, begins to play.

Wes explains that he finds it to be a technically well-made movie, but that it suffers from being didactic. He find the first act incredibly boring, and overly long. He also admits that Christopher Nolan struggles to write genuinely emotional characters, which Nick concurs with. He also says that the ending is "stupid", but loves the movie's soundtrack.

With that, Nick asks Ari to lead them out, a job he hands off to Wes (who rarely leads the outro).

Outro[edit | edit source]

The screen of comments during the final episode's favorite comment segment.

Accompanying the outro segment is the later portion of the song "Back on Track", a more melodic and dramatic part to the piece. The group thank the viewers for watching. Ari says that the video was sponsored by the concept of time, which Wesley says that they are "out of". The favorite comment segment features a total of fifteen comments from throughout the series history, including some that were never featured. The comments fill the screen, and some date back as early as 2014. One comment from Luigifanfalife was the very first comment to be featured on PWN, in episode three of the series.

The group concludes saying "with that, that has been our series, PaulWesNick". They say the closing PWN, and a montage of other outros ensues. These include a number of guests, and episodes featuring Paul and Ford. The outros included in this montage are episodes #38, #30, #26, #16, #10, #8, #4, #3, and #1. As the final outro concludes, the bass drops in "Elemelons" and the logo appears. Each of the three historical PWN logos appears in the outro. These are the current standard logo (used from episodes #22-43), the remastered Paul logo (used from episodes #4-#21), and the original colored logo (as it appeared in the first three episodes of PWN).

After these logos fade away, we see one final clip of Paul. He walks on screen donning sunglasses, removes them, and says "Hey, thanks for watching PWN. And don't forget–". He is suddenly at a loss for words, shrugs, and dances off screen. He then suddenly pops up from bottom frame and says "oh hey!", laughs, and the video ends.
