Running jokes on PWN

There are a number of running gags and inside jokes on PaulWesNick, both in PWN and in sketches and other content. These have been present since the very earliest videos.

Running jokes on PWN[edit | edit source]

These running gags tend to have only a brief half life, often lasting between three and eight episodes before fading out of the common knowledge. However, some are longstanding, and continue to be referenced well into the present.

A list of running jokes ordered by their first appearance, accompanied by a short description and any referencing videos.

  • Wesley's Name Joke - (PWN #1, 0:04, Wesley) - Wes begins the tradition of opening each episode with a joke or fake name.
  • "Let's talk about that" - (PWN #1, 0:25, Paul) - Paul referenced Good Mythical Morning when Nick says "We're going to watch the trailer and talk about it".

  • "The girl gets old" - (PWN #1, 0:55, Paul) - Paul comments on Anne Hathaway's character, saying "It's so funny how the girl got old, but the guy stayed the same". Wes repeats him: "The girl got old!"
  • "Batman!" - (PWN #1, 2:24, Paul) - Nick says "This is a Christopher Nolan movie", and Paul stands up, shouting, "Who directed... Batmaaan!". Often regarded the quintessential PWN running joke.

  • The Minecraft Joke- (PWN #1, 2:24, Paul) - When describing the android CASE, Nick says "It's the 2001 monolith". Paul, laughing, replies "No... No, they got bored so they just drew Minecraft".
  • Super ultra high quality - (PWN #1, 3:39, Wesley) - Paul says the film looks very good, and Wes adds on, "I'd say it's like, five thousand pHD, and... Twenty-five million fps".

  • PWN Underwear - (PWN #1, 4:12, Paul) - While Nick lists social media accounts, Paul is muttering to himself: "Yolo... Go to the grocery store and get our underwear".
  • Paul's Pause - (BTS #1, 0:09, Paul) - An unintentional joke, where after hearing the countdown to begin, Paul does not initiate the intro. Whenever future members would pause in a similar manner, Nick would refer to how "Paul did this all the time".

  • "This week's feast!" - (BTS #1, 0:20, Paul) - As Wesley describes the topic of the episode, Paul leans over, and shouts "This week's feast: Marinarrr Sauce!"

  • Jesus Duck - (BTS #1, 0:26, Wesley) - After a brief pause, Wes says "So Jesus Duck came down to Earth and was like, 'Let there be ducks!'"
  • Crotch Powers - (BTS #1, 2:37, Paul) - While trying to come up with an outro for the video, Paul stands up and shouts "Crotch powers! Slide! Slide! Crotch power!", while gyrating and flaunting his genitals.

  • "Stay Classy Corona" - (BTS #1, 3:04, Nick) - Nick refers to the recently recently Trident TV, whose outro catchphrase at the time was "Stay classy, not trashy".
  • "Super Power Rangers!" - (BTS #1, 3:08, Paul) - Paul, who was objected to doing a fistbump in the outro, said "It'll be like... Super Power Rangers!"
  • "Eeee Teee!" - (PWN #2, 0:34, Paul) - While listing examples of movie monsters, Paul scrunches up his face, lifts his finger, and says "E.T." in a weird voice.

  • Hunkteracops - (PWN #2, 1:41, Wesley) - While talking about the T-Rex from Jurassic Park, Wesley says this, greatly confusing Paul. The blooper video gives slightly more context to the joke, though it still explains very little.
  • "My hair is my horns!" - (PWN #2, 1:55, Paul) - Nick mentions the movie "The Land Before Time", prompting Paul to complain about the character Sarah: "That mean girl Sarah, she's like 'errrr... My hair is my horns!'".

  • The Princess Spin - (PWN #2, 3:00, Wesley and Paul) - Wesley begins his explanation by saying "Princess Bride..." Paul immediately jumps up, spins around the table, singing "Princess Briiiiidee! Hee hee hee!"
  • CJ7 - (PWN #2, , Paul) - Paul refers to this film as his favorite monster movie, to which Wesley simply says "What the hell?". Much later on, Nick found the film at the library and watched it with Ari and Wes.
  • Wendal - (BTS #2, 0:05, Nick) - Nick points out that since Wesley's realy name is never once mentioned in the first episode, people may wonder who it is: "There's like this big mystery of, 'Is it Wendal!?'"
  • Paul's Fingerboarding - (PWN #3, Paul) - Paul spends essentially the entirety of the episode fingerboarding.

  • Dos Taquitos - (PWN #3, 4:41, Wesley and Paul) - Wes and Paul begin to sing a strange song for seemingly no reason.

  • Pablo - (PWN #4, 0:29, Nick) - Nick jokes that in order to keep the name "PWN" in light of Paul's absence, Ford's real name is actually "Pablo". In the following episode, Ford begins by saying "I'm Pablo".
  • "It's wooden, it doesn't hurt" - (BTS #3, 1:22, Paul) - Paul flings his fingerboard into a wall, prompting Nick to say "That was a seventy-five dollar fingerboard". Paul responds in a strange voice, saying "It's okay, it's wooden, it doesn't hurt".
