PWN Fistbump

The Fistbump that comes at the end of episodes of PWN is one of the defining features of the series, and is referenced and parodied across the channel. The fistbump began in the very first episode of PWN, Interstellar: PWN #1, and as captured in that episode's blooper video, was unrehearsed and unplanned. The fistbump has evolved from its original form, and since the first episode, rarely manifests in actual fistbumps.

History[edit | edit source]

While attempting to end the first episode, Paul Gaurano suggests that they end each video in a uniform manner, doing "something that represents us". It is evidenced by I See Anne Hathaway: PWN 1 Extras that Wesley Davies came up with the idea to do the fistbump, accompanied by the words "you just got PWNed". Paul voiced his explicit displeasure with the idea.

The hand letters

The initial fistbump was quickly discontinued, with the next episode, Movie Monsters: PWN #2 featuring each member of the trio forming their respective letters of PWN with their hands. Furthermore, the interjection of "you just got PWNed!" was replaced with the current singular exclamation of "PWN!", albiet with low enthusiasm in its first occurence. The letters were used for many subsequent episodes, including the only recently released Our Fandoms: PWN 4, wherein Joey Cianfrani forms a J with his hand. Ford's first episode featured him holding up a P, as his name was joked to be "Pablo" for his two appearances. His second appearance, however, featured the regular fistbump.

Other attempted fistbumps

Movie Tropes: PWN 6 featured Wes and Nick doing the letters, while Ari Froehlich (in his first appearance on the show) simply acknowledges their fistbumps. Disappointing Movies: PWN 8 features the trio holding up glasses and doing a cheers to PWN, while Hollywood is Dead: PWN 10 has Ari and Nick hold out a tomato in Wesley's place. The Star Wars Holiday Special: PWN 11 has an interesting outro, in which Ari, Nick, and guest Kiersten Muse do the fistbump, while Wesley holds up a W symbol. A tomato is likewise present. Best of 2016: PWN 12 features a similar instance, where each member of the trio makes a different action. The fourteenth episode, Series That Need to Die: PWN 14, would be the third episode to feature a tomato in the outro and fistbump. Summer of '17 - PWN 15 features the trio holding up a cup, knife, and flower respectively, and saying "Capone".

Several episodes feature the members throwing things at the camera during the outro. Among these are A Very Hot Lead: PWN #13, The Last Jedi Review - PWN #17 (in which the members leap at the camera and drape it with a blanket), and The Academy Awards: PWN #19 (where a table is flipped in the outro).
