PostPWN #1: Getting Started, Harold and Maude is the first episode of the PostPWN podcast, released on October 25th, 2019. The episode features the voices of Ari Froehlich, Wesley Davies, and Nick Geoghegan. It set many of the standards for the podcast, including the format and structure. The release of the podcast coincided with the fifth anniversary of the first episode of PWN.

In this first episode, the trio discuss a number of topics. These include the recent Joker movie, Matt Reeve's upcoming superhero film The Batman, the release of Studio Ghibli films on HBO Max, Chinese censorship, Parasite, and so-called spooky movies. There is also extensive discussion of the first spotlight film, Harold and Maude.

Background[edit | edit source]

The idea for a dedicated PWN podcast had existed as far back as early 2018. Ideas were thrown around by Nick and Wesley for other PWN podcast ideas, including PWNCore Essentials and the never realized "PWNCast", a series of movie commentaries released as podcasts intended for release in the later days of PWN in mid-2019. The name "PostPWN" was partially inspired by Nick's comment in The Final Episode of PWN - PWN #43, "we are still debating what we're gonna do post-PWN." Ari also mentions that he intends to convince the others to do a podcast with him while at college. The first episode of PostPWN would come out roughly one month after that final episode of PWN was released.

While in the first days of college, the idea of a podcast came underway in full steam. Nick and Ari spearheaded the effort to organize a regular, scheduled podcast series as a continuation of PWN. The ideas behind the podcast were finally solidified by early October, and on the tenth of that month, a test podcast was recorded to ensure that all three members had functioning audio equipment and were able to sustain discussion in an unfamiliar format. This test episode remains unreleased in any format.

The first official episode of PostPWN was recorded on Saturday, October 19th starting at 7:22 PM EST. The reasoning for choosing Harold and Maude as the first Spotlight movie was due to it being the first film Nick had seen since arriving at college, only six days into school. The episode was trimmed down from an hour and a half to the hour and twenty minutes of its final form.
