Une Piste Chaud
“Une Piste Chaud” is the name of a 2017 film score track composed by Wesley Davies for the film, A Hot Lead.
Background[edit | edit source]
During the filming of the scene at Johnny B. Oy's house, Ari suggested that the scene have Italian opera in the background. Nick agreed with the idea, and Wesley, being ambitious, opted to write his own opera piece to avoid royalties. Wesley wrote the aria in a few hours, constantly listening to Italian opera compilations for ideas. He intended Crystal Hernandez to be the vocalist, and, since she was fluent in Spanish, he wrote the lyrics in Spanish. Not knowing Spanish, he used wordreference.com entirely to translate the lyrics from English to Spanish.
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
Tu es en train de regarder une piste chaud,

Usage[edit | edit source]
This track has only appeared in A Hot Lead, although it was referenced in A Very Hot Lead: PWN #13.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Nick and Ari were very impressed with the track, as it was everything they envisioned it to be. Wesley is proud that he was able to write a competent Italian opera imitation in less than a day. The lack of time is apparent in the lackluster recording, however.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The temp track Nick originally used for this scene, “O mio babbino caro”, can still be heard in the final version of the film.
- The background instruments are a muted violin and cello.
- Nick seems to think that Wesley deliberately synced the music with the scene, but in reality, he had no such intentions. By his own admission, the song’s timing was a sort of “Happy Accident”.
- The lyrics deliberately spoil the plot of the movie and break the fourth wall.
- The song is most influenced by the aria "One Fine Day" from Madame Butterfly, one of Wes’s favorites.
